Inspired by Nicole Edelman’s book L’impossible consentement (The Impossible Consent).
This is a story that begins at the cinema, with Benoît Jacquot’s Au fond des bois, and ends in the wilderness of the Massif des Maures. A story of rape told backwards: the story of a - media-driven - fate, unfolding over five chapters, spanning more than a century and a half, punctuated by the presence of Isild Le Besco.
The film will unravel this seemingly ordinary story of rape, tried in a sensational trial that was transformed into an extraordinary news story and became a landmark case, ultimately giving rise to one final narrative.
And it will set out in search of life itself — real life, the life at the heart of the original story: that of Joséphine Hugues, a French peasant woman born in the south of France, who lived from 1837 to 1913…
